Topics getting the most attention in Salinas public meetings, ranked by how frequently they come up.
Pesticide/glyphosate spraying on city fields
A resident reported early-morning fumigation with restricted pesticides near McKinnon Elementary and called for changes to state law allowing quarter-mile buffer zones around schools.
El Gabilan Park Improvement
East Salinas' El Gabilan Park is getting a nearly $890,000 makeover — new multi-use sports court, lighting, and amenities. Residents told the council the park's cracked pavement and worn equipment badly need the work, and construction could start early summer.
Northgate Recreation Center siting
An $8.1 million recreation center planned for Northgate Neighborhood Park moved forward with council acceptance of the feasibility study. Supporters say District 5 has been neglected too long; neighbors worry about traffic on Sepulveda, parking, and whether existing parks are maintained.
